I have been studying music since I was a young child, initially focusing on the piano and then the flute, harp and voice. I have been teaching and performing professionally for several years. I passed my Grade 8 certificate (ABRSM) seven years ago and I am currently working towards the ABRSM Teaching Diploma. I have plenty of experience in performing, having taken part in performances as a soloist and in a choir since childhood.

The ultimate goal of taking music lessons is to have fun and therefore in my teaching style, the emphasis is on having fun and enjoying singing. My aim is not to just produce a good singer or a pianist but a good musician and so alongside teaching healthy singing techniques, I will lay the foundations for music theory which will profit the student for their whole musical career and to build confidence.

I aim to provide a relaxed atmosphere which allows my students to progress and to flourish. I follow the ABRSM syllabus however I do not follow a set plan, instead I prefer to tailor the teaching to the pupil’s individual needs. Pupils will be introduced to a wide range of music from classical to modern, and encouraged to develop their own style. Wherever possible I try to cater to the pupil’s personal tastes. I aim to work with parents to inspire and encourage a well rounded appreciation of music.
I am currently offering music lessons to students of all ages and levels (up to university entry for voice, up to Grade 6 for Piano and Music Theory). Lessons are taught in my house in Gilmerton, in a room specially set for teaching. Parents are welcome to relax in my living room, helping themselves to tea or coffee while lessons are in progress however I recommend that they only sit in on lessons occasionally as it can be a little off-putting – as a former student I can attest to this!

I am available for lessons, these are charged at a rate of £25 per hour.
